Figma connects design tokens to code via MCP

Figma's May 2026 release notes show design systems and code getting wired together through MCP servers and agent 'skills' — Uber's team demoed using MCP skills to keep production code in sync with design tokens.

In Figma's Release Notes 2026 (May edition), the team walked through connecting design systems to code using MCP servers, plus a case study of Uber using MCP server skills inside their workflow. The pitch: your component library and tokens stop being a reference designers eyeball and become a source an agent can query and update code against — reducing the design-to-dev translation gap that junior designers usually get blamed for when handoff breaks down. Why adoption: this is a shipped feature with a named production user (Uber), not a concept demo. Still early though — most teams don't have this set up, and Penpot has no equivalent MCP tooling yet. This signals where design system tooling is heading: less 'here's a Figma link', more 'here's a queryable source of truth.'
