Penpot compares itself to Figma on data sovereignty, pricing predictability, developer handoff and long-term scalability — arguing self-hosting removes per-seat cost creep and vendor lock-in. Figma still wins on plugin maturity and market share, which is why most junior roles will expect Figma fluency first.
