Figma opened its canvas to AI agents

Figma's canvas is now open to AI agents, letting them design directly using your components and new 'skills' guardrails. It's brand new (hype) — real capability, but too fresh to call standard practice yet.

Figma has opened the design canvas itself to AI agents — not just code generation, but agents editing directly within your file using your components, styles and tokens. The headline addition is 'skills': a way to give an agent explicit context about your team's decisions (e.g. spacing rules, brand voice, when NOT to use a pattern) so it doesn't just guess. This runs on the same MCP server plumbing Figma's been building out, now extended so agents can push and pull between canvas and code more directly. It's genuinely new territory, not an incremental update, so treat early output with the same scepticism you'd give a junior collaborator's first draft — check it against your actual design system rather than assuming it 'gets' your brand.
