Config 2026 updates show the Figma agent moving from chat toy to workflow tool, with MCP connectors and enterprise-managed auth now GA. If you're on Figma, this is the bit worth actually trying.
Figma's Config 2026 update page confirms the design agent (open beta) can now attach files, search the web, run custom shareable 'skills', and connect to external tools via MCP — reading context in and writing changes back out. Separately, enterprise-managed authorisation for the MCP server just went GA, meaning admins can now roll this out org-wide via Okta instead of everyone clicking consent prompts individually. That GA status (not beta) is the tell: this isn't a demo feature any more, it's becoming plumbing.
For Penpot users: nothing equivalent yet, but watch this space — MCP is an open protocol, so other tools will likely follow.
